- Major efficiency and security enhancement in property records.

Bergen County, New Jersey has entered into a five-year agreement with blockchain firm BalconyTech to tokenize property deeds worth $240 billion on the Avalanche blockchain.
With its scale, the initiative led by Bergen County and Balcony marks a pivotal change in property record-keeping using blockchain.
Bergen County has undertaken a transformative move. The partnership with Balcony aims to tokenize nearly 370,000 deeds, presenting the most extensive blockchain deed tokenization in the country.
Balcony and the Bergen County Clerk’s Office, using the Avalanche network, work to implement this secure, digitized system across 70 municipalities. Efforts by Balcony are directed at enhancing efficiencies by up to 90% and reducing risks associated with traditional systems.
Property transactions within the participating municipalities are set for enhanced fraud protection and operational efficiency using blockchain technology. Implemented changes anticipate significant improvements in record-keeping.
Dan Silverman from Balcony highlights the cautiousness towards fraud, notably with advanced AI capabilities. The initiative sets a precedent for future technological integration in government systems. The progress in Bergen County could influence regulatory and economic landscapes as counties assess the benefits of secure, efficient blockchain solutions.
Dan Silverman, CEO, Balcony Technology, noted, “Sophisticated criminals target these systems with attacks that cost taxpayers tens of millions, and with the rise in AI, documents can be fabricated in ways completely indistinguishable from the real thing” – Banking Dive.
