BitMart’s BMX Token Drops Over 60% After Exchange Shutdown Notice

BitMart’s native BMX token collapsed more than 60% within a day after the crypto exchange said it is shutting down, publishing a wind-down notice on July 26, 2026 that lays out a staged closure running into early 2027. The BitMart BMX token shutdown erased most of the token’s value almost immediately as traders rushed to price in the exchange’s exit.

What BitMart said about shutting down

BitMart said in an official notice that it would begin an orderly wind-down after reviewing its operating conditions, the market environment, and its future strategic direction, according to the company’s support page. The statement gave no specific operational, financial, or regulatory trigger beyond those broad reasons. New registrations, deposits, and new orders began shutting down from 01:30 UTC on July 26, with futures accounts moving into reduce-only mode. All spot, futures, and other trading services will stop on August 26 at 01:00 UTC, and platform operations are planned to cease on January 31, 2027 at 15:59 UTC. The official BitMart wind-down notice gives readers the precise endpoint for the exchange’s planned closure.

The company had already signaled it would wind down its trading operations in earlier communications, and the timeline confirms the exchange is exiting after roughly nine years of operation. For related coverage, see Tesla Reports No Change to Bitcoin Holdings in Q2 2026.

Why BMX fell more than 60%

BMX is BitMart’s native exchange token, which ties its perceived value directly to the platform’s fee discounts and continued operation, so a shutdown notice removes much of the reason to hold it. The announcement triggered a sharp sell-off, as reported by CoinDesk.

The token traded at $0.066119, down 59.49% over 24 hours, leaving a market capitalization near $22.4 million on 24-hour volume of about $4.3 million.

CoinGecko listed BMX at $0.066119 after the collapse, reinforcing the article’s central market reaction claim.

The one-day plunge extended a deeper drawdown, with BMX down 78.70% over seven days and community sentiment sitting at 36% bullish versus 64% bearish. The move landed while broader risk appetite was weak, a mood also visible when Bitcoin was defending key support levels in recent sessions.

The wider market backdrop was cautious, with the crypto Fear & Greed Index reading 26, in “Fear” territory, on the day of the announcement. BitMart recently reported about $1.6 billion in 24-hour trading volume, up 51% from the prior period, according to unconfirmed reports that this coverage did not independently verify.

What the shutdown could mean for users and BMX holders

With trading halting on August 26 and operations ending in 2027, BMX’s core utility as a fee and trading token on the platform is set to disappear, leaving holders to weigh whether any use case remains. Exchange tokens typically derive value from platform activity, similar to how newly listed assets react to exchange listings and delistings.

BitMart said withdrawals will remain open subject to manual review, with checks that may include KYC, device and IP verification, source-of-funds review, Travel Rule compliance, and sanctions screening. Users are advised to submit withdrawal requests by 05:00 UTC on August 26 to allow processing before trading services close.

The immediate questions for customers center on recovering funds within the wind-down window and whether any secondary venue continues to support BMX after BitMart stops trading it.
