DePin News: VanEck Invests in DAWN and IoTeX

DePin, or the Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network, is transforming the technology industry by promoting decentralized projects in physical infrastructures.

Recently, in the DePin industry, there have been notable developments: VanEck invested $2.5 million in DAWN to provide decentralized wireless services; IoTeX joins Blockchain Association to mobilize political support for DePin; Exabits receives $15 million in seed capital, etc

VanEck Invests in DAWN

In the first news, VanEck has invested in DAWN, a DePin project. DAWN stands for Decentralized Autonomous Wireless Network, and the company is trying to create a DePin wireless service provider. According to one post On VanEck’s social network, this approach, likened to “AirBnB for the internet,” can compete with traditional ISPs:

“While the internet is growing, the infrastructure that powers it is limited by aging models that cannot meet modern needs. In the US alone, more than 80 million Americans have only one option for high-speed internet, creating local monopolies with little incentive to innovate,” VanEck stated.

VanEck did invest 2.5 million USD into this project. This is a rare DePin investment for the company; It has previously funded startups in the crypto and AI space and is a major ETF issuer, but does not yet have a strong presence in the DePin space. In its social media announcement, the company did not imply or state that it would increase its presence in this field.

Exabits is promoting a different vision that is now showing promise.

IoTeX Joins Blockchain Association

The company described its efforts in a blog post post about his reasons for joining the Blockchain Association, a cryptocurrency advocacy group. They also offer a variety update from the “DePin Working Group” at a recent policy conference.

“Collaboration with policymakers is the foundation of building a thriving DePIN ecosystem… By joining the Blockchain Association, IoTeX is [tạo dựng] Clear paths for DePIN projects to launch. Together, we can unlock the full potential of decentralized infrastructure… guided by clear regulation,” said Raullen Chai, CEO and Co-Founder of IoTeX.

The policy working group also includes DePin leaders Hedera and Helium, an infrastructure company based on Solana. Political advocacy groups are growing in the broader crypto/Web3 landscape, as they played a key role in the recent US election. By joining this type of movement, IoTeX is contributing to accelerating DePin innovation.

Karrier One Launches WiFi Broadcast Device

Karrier One debut Decentralized WiFi broadcasting devices, using the SUI network to support DePin Internet access. Users who provide WiFi transfer services to carriers can receive KONE Tokens of this protocol. To commemorate the launch, the company also held a session launch 300 broadcasting devices.

“As traditional telecommunications providers struggle to meet growing demand, Karrier One is leveraging Sui’s technology to enhance needed capacity and expand access to underserved areas,” said Jameel Khalfan, Head of Ecosystem Development at Sui Foundation.
