Instructions to enable 2FA security for Blockchain wallets

Most of the accounts we create online are accessible with a username and password. Similarly, your Blockchain.com Wallet has a wallet ID and password for login. These are the first two logins that protect whatever information (and money) is stored inside, but even with a lengthy complex password, it may not be enough. Two-factor authentication (also known as 2FA, or two-step verification) is another very important layer of security you can set up to keep your Wallet safe. Today, we will guide you to enable 2FA security for Blockchain.

Why do you need to enable 2FA security?

Even strong passwords can be broken or compromised by a remote attacker. However, if you have 2FA, someone who gets your password will be prevented from accessing your wallet because they will also ask for your 2FA code. Unlike your password, your 2FA code changes with each login and is retrieved from your mobile device (or a separate hardware authentication device, if you use Yubikey). Enabling 2FA serves as an extremely useful deterrent to online attacks, meaning your wallet won’t become an easy target for unauthorized access.

We recommend Google Authenticator to most users. It does not require an internet connection or phone service to use and is more secure than SMS as it is offline and local to your device.

  1. Download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Under Enable, select Authenticator App.
  3. You will be provided with a QR code to scan with the Google Authenticator app. For those on Android devices: Open Google Authenticator on your device, click the 3 dots in the upper right corner and select Add Account and Scan Barcode. For those on iOS devices: Open Google Authenticator on your device, click the + icon in the upper right, then click Scan Barcode.
  4. Scan the QR code with your mobile device. Once done, you should now see your Wallet ID listed in your app with 6 numbers that change randomly every 30 seconds. This is your 2FA code that you will use to log in.
  5. Enter the code and tap Verify code.

Yubikey If you have a Yubikey, you can use it to ensure secure OTP login to your wallet.

  1. Under On , press the Yubikey button .
  2. Click inside the field. Insert your Yubikey and tap to enter the code.
  3. Click Send .

SMS If you do not have a smartphone, you can choose to send an OTP to your mobile phone by SMS.

  • You will need to link your mobile number. Under On , press the Mobile Number button .
  • Enter your mobile number in the field and tap Get Verification Code.

6.You will receive a text message with your verification code. Enter the code and click Submit Code. If you enter the wrong number, tap Change mobile number and enter a new number.

Above are some instructions to enable 2 FA security for Blockchain wallets. Hope this information will help a lot in everyone’s work and life. Thank you for reading the article.
