Jupiter, a leading DeFi (DeFi) protocol on Solana, has just revealed details about the highly anticipated Jupuary airdrop.
According to the announcement on X, the airdrop claim process, including 575 million USD worth of JUP Tokens, will be activated on Wednesday at 15:30 UTC.
Details about the Jupiter Airdrop request
To celebrate the launch, collaborators Kash Dhanda and Mei will host a special JUP Rally event, welcoming participants to the “Jupiverse.” The project team emphasizes that participants will have three months to claim their Tokens, allowing flexibility to avoid network congestion or high transaction fees. Important instructions include:
“Quick tip: — you will have 3 months to claim. Don’t rush. Solana can be congested, gas fees can be expensive — if you are marked as a sybil or bot, you can appeal after January 27 — you must create a Jupuary profile to claim — you must claim each wallet individually,” according to Jupiter speak.
This is Jupiter’s second largest Token distribution. The protocol previously conducted a major airdrop last year, with 955,000 wallets sharing a block of 1 billion tokens. Jupuary 2025 aims to build on that success with larger and more targeted distribution.
The total airdrop allocation is 700,000 JUP Tokens, expected on Wednesday, January 22, including 440 million Tokens for active users and 60 million Tokens for stakers. The remainder is earmarked for growth campaigns, called “prey,” aimed at expanding Jupiter’s user base.
Jupiter Tiered Token Distribution
Jupiter’s distinctive approach divides users into categories based on activity, like trading and testing new products. Tokens are distributed in tiers within these categories, avoiding a linear distribution that can heavily bias towards high-volume traders.
For example:
- Professional trader:
- Top-tier receives 300,000 JUP (246,000 USD).
- Lowest-tier gets 20 JUP (less than 20 USD).
- User Swap:
- Top-tier receives 20,000 JUP (16,400 USD).
- Lowest-tier gets 25 JUP (20 USD).
Addresses that fall into multiple categories will receive allocations for each category. The tiered design ensures broader and more equitable distribution while rewarding high participation.
“The top 10% of Swap users (over $8,000 in volume) account for 99% of total swap volume, and the top 1% of Swap users (over $200,000 in volume) account for 97% of total swap volume,” recorded by Dhanda in the Jupiter research forum.
Meanwhile, this airdrop is not just about Token distribution. Mei, a Jupiter contributor helped design the airdrop event, going beyond education to create growth in our community.
“Airdrop is just a way to bring people together,” said this contributor explain in a livestream.
Dhanda added that while Jupuary will continue in 2025, the 2026 airdrop will have a new design to reflect growing community demand and protocol evolution.
Despite news of Jupiter’s airdrop request, the JUP Token price has dropped 7.5% in the past 24 hours, trading at $0.89 at the time of writing.
The Jupuary Airdrop takes place ahead of Jupiter’s “Catstanbul” conference in Istanbul, scheduled for January 25-26. The event is expected to draw attention to the protocol’s ongoing innovations and open commitments Jupiverse wide.
