With the concentration of Bitcoin (BTC) mining expanding North America, Miami mayor Francis Suarez is seeking to position his town as a hub for cryptocurrency mining.

Speaking into CNBC on Thursday, Mayor Suarez stated he’s inviting foreign miners to think about setting up data centers in town.

According to Suarez, Miami’s abundant atomic energy supply will appeal to Bitcoin miners seeking to use clean energy resources for their operations, particularly in light of the present climate focus. Carbon emissions are attributed to cryptocurrency mining.

Mayor Suarez previously weighed in on the matter, stating in March which 90 percent of Bitcoin mining is from “dirty energy.”

At the moment, the mayor of Miami argued that shifting mining attention on the United States could help alleviate environmental concerns.

As part of an attempt to attract Bitcoin miners overseas, Mayor Suarez declared that city officials are searching for ways to decrease energy costs related to power companies. Other incentives like favorable taxes and minimum regulations will also be on the table, according to the Miami mayor.

By with clean, cheap electricity and crypto-friendly regulations, Miami can compete with other emerging mining areas in Texas and Wyoming.

The plan could also further expand Miami’s crypto adoption momentum with the town seeking to become the Bitcoin and crypto capital of the world.

Mayor Suarez himself is a proponent of cryptocurrency and has previously said that he possesses both Bitcoin and Ether (ETH). The mayor of Miami purchased BTC later Congress passed a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill in March.

Suarez’s open invitation to overseas miners also comes at a time when Chinese authorities are raising their controls on cryptocurrency mining. On Friday, reports surfaced that cryptocurrency miners in Ya’an, a town in Sichuan province, were ordered to shut down their operations.

With anti-cryptocurrency sentiment seemingly pervasive among police in Beijing, a friendlier climate such as Miami could prove attractive to miners leaving China. Indeed, some miners are considering plans to depart the nation with a BTC.top spokesperson.

“Yes, we want to go abroad.”
