The Shiba Inu development team has successfully performed an emergency security upgrade to the Shibarium bridge.
This update comes ahead of an expected major hard fork to enhance the network’s performance and scalability.
Shibarium Prepares for Critical Hard Fork After Bridge Emergency Upgrade
On November 30, Shiba Inu ecosystem developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed the completion of major maintenance on the Shibarium bridge. This upgrade has temporarily placed the bridge into maintenance mode to address security concerns and prepare for upcoming changes. Dhairya assures that user funds remain safe throughout this process.
The bridge enables seamless and secure Token transfers between Ethereum and Shibarium. During maintenance, Token burning has been temporarily stopped, but the amount of Token burning is still accumulating on the platform. Now, with the security upgrade complete, the bridge is fully operational again.
Dhairya confirmed that while the bridge is operational, the burn contract upgrade is still ongoing. These improvements will take place throughout the weekend and next week.
“Maintenance is complete and the Shibarium bridge is now fully operational. We are still making upgrades to the burn contract, these will continue throughout the weekend and into next week,” Dhairya stated.
This update comes as Shibarium, Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 blockchain solution, prepares for an important hard fork. Expected to take place early next week, the hard fork aims to optimize network performance, improve transaction speeds, and fix scalability issues. These innovations are expected to shape Shibarium’s long-term development, ensuring it can handle increased demand while maintaining efficiency.
“A hard fork is an important protocol upgrade that can introduce new features, resolve performance bottlenecks, and improve overall functionality. With Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 network expanding, the upcoming hard fork is designed to increase throughput and enhance overall capabilities,” the statement said. said.
Since its launch last year, Shibarium has attracted considerable attention. The platform has processed nearly 600 million transactions and reached the 500 million milestone earlier this month. Additionally, approximately 2 million blockchain addresses have interacted with Shibarium and the network has successfully processed more than 8 million blocks.

Therefore, the upcoming upgrade represents a strategic milestone for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, marking a commitment towards innovation and network development as it expands capabilities in the blockchain sector.
