Spain-based seafood company, Nueva Pescanova Group, announced a partnership with IBM to utilize the Food Trust platform – a distributed ledger technology platform designed for supply chain traceability. response.

According to a June 8 announcement from IBM, a partnership is already underway, with Nueva Pescanova using blockchain technology to track shrimp fishing in Argentina and shrimp farming in Ecuador.

In the announcement, Ignacio González, CEO of Nueva Pescanova Group, said the traceability platform will help the company meet the United Nations Global Dialogue standards on Fisheries Traceability ( DGST), stating:

“We want to provide consumers around the world with detailed and rigorous information about the traceability of our seafood products, from the source of origin until it reaches their table. Now is the time for businesses in the seafood sector to start addressing GDST standards.”

Nueva Pescanova Group is a leading multinational seafood company established in 1960. The company covers aquaculture, production, processing and distribution of seafood.

IBM’s Food Trust traceability platform is designed for the food industry, allowing members of the network to view comprehensive supply chain data from products in “near real-time” – saving you money in efficiency. significant results for manufacturers, reducing fraud in the global market and ensuring safety and sustainability obligations are met.

Sustainability is an issue of growing importance for seafood consumers, with IBM referencing the European Food Sustainability 2020 study, which found that nearly 50% of respondents would buy more seafood. produce more if they have more information about its “origin, safety and manufacture”.

This partnership adds to the growing list of food and agriculture companies that have partnered with IBM for blockchain-based supply chain solutions.
