Starknet Resumes Block Production Post-Grinta Upgrade Outage

Starknet, an Ethereum Layer-2 network, resumed block production after a 3-4 hour outage on October 3 caused by its Grinta v0.14.0 upgrade in Ethereum’s decentralized sequencer.

Starknet experienced a major outage following its Grinta upgrade, affecting block production for several hours. The upgrade aimed to improve decentralization with a new sequencer and fee system, but Cairo0 code incompatibility led to disruptions. The block production has now resumed.

StarkWare Industries is at the forefront with key figures like Eli Ben-Sasson and Uri Kolodny. Their Grinta upgrade faced setbacks due to sequencer failures. Starknet’s official channels reported ongoing technical updates during the incident to maintain transparency.

The outage impacted STRK token prices, resulting in a 3–5% drop. Most Starknet-based decentralized apps paused transactions temporarily. These disruptions illustrate vulnerabilities during major network overhauls, affecting users directly reliant on the Layer-2 structure.

Financial impacts remain a concern as users had to resubmit transactions after block reorganization. While Starknet’s TVL remained stable compared to its competitors, service reliability issues could impact its future market positioning in the Layer-2 market.

The need for robust upgrade strategies on networks similar to Starknet remains clear. While Ethereum core Layer-1 was not directly affected, dependent DeFi protocols faced transaction hurdles. Starknet’s response highlighted the necessity for coordinated upgrade management.

Historical data mirrors similar incidents where other Layer-2 solutions have encountered challenges. Looking ahead, technological advancements and mitigation strategies will be critical in reducing outages.

“The team reiterated that service stability was a priority as the Grinta update continued to be deployed.” — Starknet Official Channel

StarkWare’s response remains essential in supporting continued network integrity.
