Trump Tariff Threat Triggers $150 Billion Crypto Market Loss

The cryptocurrency market witnessed a drastic downturn as $150 billion was wiped out, primarily due to former US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats against countries trading with Russia.

The event illustrates significant volatility in the cryptocurrency market amid geopolitical tensions, prompting immediate market responses and heightened economic instability.

Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies experienced significant volatility following Trump’s announcement threatening 100% tariffs on nations engaging with Russia. Bitcoin plummeted below $117,000, causing a sharp market decline.

Market analysts

noted significant profit-taking by major holders as an immediate reaction. Large volumes were liquidated, impacting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other significant coins, which experienced substantial price drops.

If Russia does not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine within 50 days, the US will impose 100% tariffs on any country still trading with Russia. The penalties will be ‘very severe’ for all global partners conducting business with Moscow.

The announcement generated heightened volatility, with market panic contributing to widespread sell-offs.

Some investors realized substantial profits amid concerns over potential widened geopolitical effects on global trade.

No immediate institutional or regulatory actions were announced to mitigate the crash’s impacts, leaving market participants speculating on further possible economic outcomes and pondering the geopolitical move’s broader implications.
